CRRH

The Health and Medical Research Centre (HMRC), a collaborative research excellence centre of the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan, and a Research Seminar Room (RSR) were inaugurated in June 2025. The establishment of this centre was approved by the CPD and Research Steering Committee of the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) and the Ministry of Health in February 2025. The Medical Education Centre for Research, Innovation and Training (MECRIT), KGUMSB, has funded the equipment and furniture for the HRMC.

The HMRC functions under the terms of reference for the health and medical research units established at the two Regional Referral Hospitals. The HMRC provides avenues for clinicians, health workers and academicians from within and outside Bhutan to generate high-quality scientific data aimed at improving healthcare policies and practices. Some of the core areas of focus of HRMC includes research and innovation, capacity building/training and research advocacy.

The centre functions with health staff who volunteer for conducting research activities. There is no separate payment for researchers as per the BCSR 2022 of Royal Civil Service Commission and the CoS 2024 of the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan.

Friends and well-wishers interested in conducting collaborative researches with the HMRC may contact Dr Thinley Dorji, program lead (thinleydorji@nms.gov.bt).
