Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is becoming one of the biggest threats to our health today. It happens when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines. This makes infections harder to treat and increases the risk of severe illness and death.

In simple terms, antibiotics that once cured infections are no longer working as they should. Even the strongest, โ€œlast-resortโ€ antibiotics are becoming less effective. This is already leading to treatment failures in hospitals and communities. If this continues, we may reach a point where there are no effective antibiotics leftโ€”even for minor infections. Common illnesses and routine medical procedures could become dangerous again.

AMR spreads among people, animals, food, and the environment. It is mainly driven by misuse and overuse of antibiotics, self-medication, poor hygiene, and their use in animal farming.

* Take antibiotics only when prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional

* Always complete the full course of treatment

* Never share or reuse leftover medicines

* Maintain good hygiene, especially regular hand washing

Every small action counts. Together, we can slow down antimicrobial resistance and protect the power of antibiotics for future generations.
