From May 5th to 9th, the Digital Health and Innovation Unit (DHIU) at CRRH conducted a hands-on excel-Based Data Analysis Training at CRRH for Medical Records Technicians and QA officers from CRRH, Sarpang Hospital, and Chuzergang Hospital. This 5-day session was conducted in collaboration with experts from Gyalpoizhing College of IT.

The training started from the basics, getting comfortable with Excel’s layout and tools, and gradually moved toward advanced functions like pivot tables, dashboards, macros, and even automating routine tasks on practical hospital datasets. Along the way, the topics on how to protect patient data, with simple steps like password protection and good data-handling practices were also covered.

“This training opened my eyes to how much we can do with the data we already have,” shared one participant. Another participant added, “This training was timely and much needed, we can now analyse ePIS data and use it to make informed decisions that improve patient care.”

The energy throughout the week was incredible. Participants showed genuine curiosity and commitment. On the final day, everyone received a certificate of completion, a small token to mark a big milestone. The participants also expressed their genuine token of appreciation through a cake and gifts for the trainers.

This marks a milestone as CRRH becomes the first healthcare institution in Bhutan to partner with GCIT, thanks to the support of the Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City, who encouraged this healthcare–academia collaboration.

The Digital Health and Innovation Unit (DHIU) at CRRH was established to lead such transformative efforts focusing on improving data use in healthcare, strengthening digital capacity, and aligning with the broader aspirations of Gelephu Mindfulness City.

What’s Next?

Due to high interest, a second batch of training is already being planned

Our collaboration with GCIT will continue through both faculty and student projects

Department-level data clinics to put these skills to real use will be conducted.

Sincere gratitude to our trainers from GCIT and everyone who made this happen. This is where digital skills meet healthcare passion; to build a smarter, responsive and efficient healthcare system and this is just the begining!
