CRRH conducted the 4th edition of CRRH Lecture Series for the Advancement of Clinical Skills (CLASS) on 25 March 2026. The session on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV was delivered by Dr. Yangchen Tshomo, GDMO and Focal Person for HIV and allied services at CRRH. โ
โDr. Yangchen highlighted that people who are HIV-negative but at higher risk of exposure to HIV would benefit from PrEP and should be used together with other protection methods like condoms. While PEP is an emergency medicine that must be started within 72 hours (3 days) after possible exposure to HIV. However, PrEP and PEP do not protect an individual against other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or pregnancy. โ
If you think you may benefit from PrEP and PEP, please visit the nearest healthcare centres and consult a healthcare professional. As of today PrEP services are available in Thimphu, Paro, Sarpang and Chukha.
More than 70 participants attended the session through an online platform and in-person. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the speakers including from previous CLASS sessions in recognition of their valuable contributions.
CRRH conducts CLASS series in hybrid format enabling participants to attend either in person or online to strengthen clinical skills and professional development among healthcare professionals.โ
