Biomedical engineering

The Biomedical Engineering Unit oversees and attends to medical equipment throughout its life cycle; from installation, to repair and maintenance, performance verification, safety testing and finally condemnation, which is the end of the equipment life cycle. The unit is responsible for maintaining the functionality of the medical equipment in the hospital.

The unit consists of:

  • 1 Biomedical Engineer
  • 1 Junior Engineer
  • 4 Biomedical Equipment Technicians
  • 4 Medical Gas Technicians

The unit also provides biomedical engineering ser­vices to hospitals in the catchment areas making up the central region including Dagana, Tsirang, Trongsa, Sarpang and Zhemgang.

Services

  • Installation of new medical equipment or Medical Equipment mobilized from other health centers
  • Preventive and Corrective Maintenance activities for the medical equipment
  • Performance Verification and Safety Testing (PVST) of medical equipment in the health facilities under the Central Region BES
  • Condemnation of equipment that are not fit for use
  • Record-keeping of inventories of medical equipment in CRRH, and monitoring of medical equipment inventory in other health facilities under the Central Region BES
  • In CRRH, the medical gas team provides 24×7 medical gas services within hospital premises.
